RailAmerica, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is to own and operate short line and regional freight railroads in North America. It currently owns, leases and operates a diversified portfolio of 42 railroads with approximately 7,800 miles located in the United States and Canada. In addition, it operates a tourist railroad in Hawaii. The railroads carry a diverse mix of commodities that include coal, lumber and forest products, chemicals, metals, agricultural and farm products, food products and others. During the year 2005, the Group acquired four short line railroads from Alcoa Inc. Owns and operates short line and regional freight railroads in North America
