Landstar Systems Incorporated. The Group's principal activity is to provide transportation services to shippers throughout the United States. The business is carried out through three segments: Carrier, Multimodal and Insurance. The Carrier segment provides truckload transportation of general commodities over irregular routes with its fleet of dry and specialty vans and unsided trailers. The Global Logistics segment provides intermodal moves, contracts logistics, truck brokerage and emergency and expedited airfreight, ocean cargo and buses. The Insurance segment provides risk and claims management services and also reinsures property, casualty and occupational accident risks of independent contractors. The services are provided to a variety of industries, including iron and steel, automotive products, paper, lumber and building products, aluminum, chemicals, foodstuffs, heavy machinery, retail, electronics, ammunition and explosives and military hardware.
