1. Finding Suppliers
The first thing you need to do in order to start your E-commerce business is to find suppliers. There are plenty of websites like AliExpress that helps you find suppliers who offer inexpensive items. Also, since you want to launch your store in just one day, AliExpress saves you a ton of time by making it so easy to find great products to sell.
Adding products to your store and making sure that you won’t sell a product that is not in stock can be a tedious task. There are several drop shipping apps to help you out, but I suggest starting with a free trial of Oberlo would be a great time saver.
In fact, if you are using E-commerce platforms like Shopify, the two examples that I gave above work well together as Oberlo can help you manage AliExpress drop shipping. Speaking of drop shipping, you should know that is is not a new concept. Zappos started using drop shipping back in 1999. Amazon and Sears use drop shipping as well. AliExpress offers a new approach to drop shipping.
After installing Oberlo, go back to AliExpress, search for the products you have decided to sell, and import them into your store with just one click. Make sure you select only the highest-rated suppliers and products with free delivery.
After importing the products, customize them to suit your needs. The product names and descriptions often come with information you don’t really need, or you might want to tweak the information to make it different from the AliExpress.com listing. Import at least 40 to 50 products and your store is ready. When you receive an order, go to Oberlo’s order page, confirm it, and have it shipped directly to your customer. It really is that easy.
2. Building the Store
There are two ways you can launch a store. The first way is by building one yourself (self-hosted) and the second way is by renting a pre-built store from an e-commerce platform provider (hosted). The problem with the first way is that you have to invest a lot of money and effort. And since you want to launch a store in a day, choosing the second option would be smarter.
There are websites, such as Shopify, which already have everything pre-built. You just need to choose the name and the template for your store. This is very easy, just like managing your Facebook account. Shopify allows you to quickly launch a store and maintain it for less than $30/month.
When you register, look into what channels you can use to sell your products. Shopify allows you to sell your products across multiple channels, including an online store, Facebook store, or even a brick and mortar store. Head to your settings page to create your online store under the Sales Channels section.
Also, don’t forget to create content. You’ve probably heard that “content is the king,” right? Optimizing your content will require more of your time in the future, but making use of standard pages templates for pages like About Us or Delivery Information is good enough to get started. You can then create terms and conditions, privacy, and return policies pages using Shopify’s free tool here.
When you are done with content, you will need to add a payment provider, create your shipping rates, and add your billing information. If you are creating your store with Shopify and live in the United States, then you can use the Shopify payments gateway. Others will need to add their PayPal account. As for the shipping information, it is best to choose free international delivery. Most of the products you will add to your store will have the delivery charges already incorporated into the product’s price.
3. Choosing Your Products
When you have your store set up and suppliers have been chosen, now comes the fun part: choosing what you are going to sell. The best way of drumming up product ideas is by browsing other stores and social shopping sites.
Big stores have infinite resources of data and employ hundreds of people to organize their sales and pick their products. Use that information to your benefit as follows:
- See what are the best-selling products in big e-commerce sites such as AliExpress, Amazon and eBay. Follow trending products on Pinterest or Wanelo. Write down what products interest you across all the shops.
- When you have a list of at least 20 products, determine which ones are easier to sell. Niche products might not be the best solution. Choose something more generic, like mobile phone accessories or jewelry.
- Avoid expensive items, as they are harder to sell. Cost efficient products require less money from your buyer. They also require less support while increasing the odds of finding success in developing markets.
- Assess product demand at Google Trends. Go to google.com/trends, enter each product idea, and see what comes up for trends. Is it decreasing? Is it a seasonal product? If you answered yes to either of these questions, cross the idea off your list.
Ideally, you should have one to two product line ideas that you could use to fill your store. Drop Shipping allows you to quickly switch between ideas, so if your first choice proves to be unsuccessful, you can easily try another one.
And that is it. Those are all the steps of how to launch an E-commerce store in a day. Dedicate your time to experimenting with various marketing channels and landing your first order. Use social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to publicize your store. Check Reddit groups. Once you realize you can sell, then you can always go back to upgrade your store’s look, stock products in a warehouse, or even white-label them with your own brand.
If you can launch a store in a day, then you can probably land a sale in a week. Bear in mind that the biggest mistake that people make is never trying. Now that you see how easy and fast it is to get an E-commerce store up and running, what are you waiting for? After all, the only right time is right now.
