Disk Duplication and Distribution

Disk duplication has been an issue as long as computer disks have been in use. The formats may have changed, but as long as computers are writing data, computer users will be converting disks and searching for disk duplication services. The first computers used tapes and big floppy disks. Today's computers read and write to CDs and DVDs, so disk duplication services are easier and more inexpensive than ever before.

Disk conversion often involves transferring data from one disk format to another. Sometimes this involves converting from one set of file formats to another, and other times it just involves copying files from one type of disk to a different type. Each type of disk has its own specific uses and advantages.

1. Floppy disks were, until recently, used quite often for data storage and transfer.

2. CDs can hold data or music and are convenient when it comes to disk duplication.

3. DVDs can hold video and also software and are becoming the disk format of choice for multimedia.

Obtain disk duplication services and equipment

Disks come in many different formats. Floppy disks have several, varying both the size of the disk the amount of storage space. CDs come in several formats, including music and data types. Disk duplication for DVD formats include DVD-5 (single side, single layer), DVD-9 (single side, dual layer), and DVD-10 (double-side, single layer). Depending on your duplicating needs, you may opt to hire a disk duplication service or do your duplicating in-house.

Disk conversion involves copying information from one type of disk or media to another. The information can be data, audio or video formats. Common types of conversion include conversion between various types of floppy disks, or from floppy disk to CD, vinyl records or cassette tapes to CD or MP3 audio files, and VHS or reel-to-reel tapes to DVD format. Special equipment can be purchased for converting disks in bulk.

Procure disk distribution services for your software or marketing disks

There are many phases of distribution that require guidance. Once your disk is converted and duplicated, design a custom label for it, along with one of a number of containers, from a simple paper sleeve to a stiff cardboard mailer to a professional plastic case. Some vendors offer disk duplication and distribution services as a package deal.
  • Floppy disks, audio cassettes and VHS tapes are magnetic media and therefore need to be handled with care. They should be kept away from magnets and stored in a location where they won't be subjected to high temperatures, chemical solvents, or dust or pollutants in the air. CDs and DVDs, while not magnetic, should also be kept away from high temperatures and in a container that will minimize scratches and exposure to dust.
