Each has their pros and cons, the traditional route is often far more difficult but ensures wider circulation, the second is more time consuming and the individual publishing the piece is responsible for all marketing, however it is often the only option if finding a traditional publisher proves difficult. Also consider the format you would like the piece published in. This ranges from online to hard copies. Self-publishing is generally expensive and money is required up front.
