An email white list is a list of email addresses or Internet domains that are trusted to not send spam emails. When an individual or domain ends up on an email white list, they are much more likely to bypass spam filters and reach their intended customer's inbox. An email white list is useful for both individuals and Internet service providers (ISPs).
An individual will keep an email white list in order to selectively approve e-mails from friends, organizations or companies which they want to be sure to read. For example, an individual may have signed up for a sales newsletter from a company, but their email provider might be directing the message to spam because of its commercial content. The individual would then white list that company's email to make sure they receive it in their inbox.
ISPs also negotiate with companies to white list their emails in exchange for a fee. Instead of negotiating with the ISPs themselves, a company wishing to secure white list status for their e-mails can sign up with an email marketing service and have their emails white listed through them.
