Become a pilot in indian skies
pilot training for indian CPL and ATPL
How do i become a pilot in commercial airlines in India...Good question !. the answer is not available to many students at a single point.i have outlined a step by step process which should help you (with weblinks as required) reach that goal in life. All the best...
1. You need to have the following qualifications to become a pilot, 10+2 with Physics and maths for CPL and ATPL. 10 th pass for SPL/PPL at the time of applying for the license. contact http://www.dgca.nic.in/ for further details.
That means you can start appearing for the flying and ground subjects exams about a year before your 12 board exams(remember with Physics and Maths)
2. You need to be medically fit. You need class 2 medical fitness for SPL and PPL and Class 1 medical fitness for CPL and above. Class 2 medical can be done in all the metros with the DGCA approved Aviation medicine specialists. check at the http://www.dgca.nic.in/ for the doctors list. Class 1 medical can be done only after you have a valid class 2 medical. there is a huge rush since only AFCME at New Delhi Air Force station Jorhat in Assam and IAM at Bangalore are authorised centers for class 1 medical. the waiting period is about 9-14 months for an appointment date.
HINT - book your class 1 medical date the moment you get your class 2 medical approved.3. You need to pass the ground subjects exams and flying exams for grant of a license by DGCA along with a valid medical status.
3. You need to follow the following process.
a. First approach a qualified aviation medicine specialist (check at the http://www.dgca.nic.in/ for the doctors list). Get your class 2 medical done. You will be allotted a PMR no and approval will come from DGCA.
b.Join any DGCA approved Flying club in India for commencing flying or go to step 'g' if you plan to do your flying abroad. There about 13 flying clubs in India which are operational. Go to DGCA site for details or contact me with your location details and i will direct you to the nearest flying club
c. Obtain a SPL. Exams are conducted inhouse in the flying club.
d. On completion of 10 Hrs of flying you can apply for Computer No to the DGCA. The Computer No is a must for applying to appear for any of the DGCA exams for PPL/CPL/ATPL or Conversion of a license obtained from abroad. You need to pass the following papers - Air Nav, Meteorology, Air Regulations, Technical General and Technical Specific. The exams are held in all major metros every Jan, Apr, Jul, and Oct . The validity if each paper is two and a half years. Keep those pass reports safely-you need to submit these along with your application for the PPL/CPL/ATPL. In fact it would be wise to open aseparate file and keep hard copies of all documentaion of your CPL. You can also apply for a separate exam if any of your papers are going to lapse.
e. You will also be given a FRTOL- Restricted by the Flying club to fly as a student and operate the Radio equipment to make and recieve transmissions.
f. You will require a FRTOL issued by WPC ( Wireless and Planning Committee ) of DOT, Min of Telecom India to obtain your PPL/CPL/ATPL. check the following site http://www.dot.gov.in/ go to WPC/SACFA for application forms and other details. The exams consists of two parts, Part 1 is transmissions and Part 2 is Viva. You need to pass both parts to get a FRTOL. These are held in Chennai-Feb, Delhi-Apr and Sep, Mumbai-, Kolkata and Hyderabad-Dec every year.
g. If you are doing your CPL from abroad you require to appear for the following 2 papers.Composite (Air Nav and Met ) and Air Regulations which are conducted along with aother exams by DGCA. You will also require a FRTOL issued by a Commonwealth nation to be converted to Indian FRTOL or pass the required exam as given in para f.h. You need to have at least 50 Hrs of flying experience or a PPL issued by DGCA if you want to appear for the CPL exam in India.i. If you are planning to fly only 50 hours abroad and start appearing for DGCA exams then its better to acquire the PPL from that country and get it converted here by passing the conversion paper and then start appearing for the CPL exams.
The following table should help you.
Type of License Age/Qualifications No of Flying Hours/ Class of Medical
SPL 16/10 th Pass 10 Hrs /Class 2( Students Pilots Lic)
PPL 17/10 th Pass 40 Hrs /Class 2( Private Pilots Lic )
CPL 18/12th Pass( Phy and Maths) 200 Hrs /Class 1( Commercial Pilots Lic)
