Better Health For Your Work Force

How to create a more productive, and more cost efficient workforce through better health.

By Tom Gilliam Healthy Body Weight
The American workplace has a serious problem and it is hitting companies just like yours right in the wallet. Many workers are out of shape, and the financial burden they’re placing on companies is getting heavier by the minute. Because these out of shape employees have more health problems, their insurance premiums cost more than their healthy counterparts. This is especially true for overweight workers as well. They fall victim to expensive injuries. They take a lot of sick days. When they are at work, they’re less productive than they would be if they were fit, healthy, and—yes—happy. How do we solve this problem? By promoting a healthy life style in the workplace you can make a difference. Studies show that workers who are more active report having higher productivity and a more positive attitude during the work day. With healthy employees come lower insurance premiums, as well.

Keep track of your efforts

Encourage ALL employees to keep a daily activity log. Not only will this let them keep track of their exercise, it will also serve as motivation and a reminder to exercise.

Some things to do at work

Schedule regular breaks for your employees and encourage them to go for walks outside. Offer healthy snack alternatives in the break room. Spread the word about events such as walk-a-thons and other activities. Get your company involved.
