Holistic Link Building for Your Web Site

How to Pursue Links for All Your Content

By Eric Ward, President, EricWard.com
What is Holistic Link Building? First, it's recognizing that any web site is more than just its homepage URL, and within the site are content elements that can become linked. And second, its looking beyond the major engines for "vertical" search tools that your content can be listed with and linked from. Within a web site, there are often content and features that on their own represent an opportunity for publicity and links. These content types include Blogs, RSS Feeds, Audio/Video, Podcasts, Contests/sweepstakes, White Papers and even web cams.

Links for Blogs or RSS Feeds

You may have added a new Blog or RSS Feed to your site, but have you done anything to let others know about it? Here's a great site that has a list of the top directories where you can submit your RSS Feeds and Blog URLs to get more exposure so others can find them.

Links from Vertical, Regional, and Topical Web Guides, Search Engines, Directories

Most people are familiar with the major search engines and directories, such as Google and Yahoo, but there are also industry specific and content specific search engines, directories, and web guides. Here's some useful ways to find them.
Try: Search Links from SearchEngineWatch - This section of the Search Engine Watch web site lists some top choices in various categories.

I also use Search Engine Directory, which allows you to browse through a topical directory of directories.

Another useful site is Search Engine Colossus, which lists search engines and directories in other countries.

A Search Engine for Every Topic

No matter what the topic of your site, is, there's likely a directory or search engine devoted to that topic. Here's one last great example.
