Learn more about ISO tanks

By Terri Deno
ISO (International Standards Organization) tanks are large tanks that can hold a range of products. Many tanks are customized to hold special products due to of the needs of the substances to stay temperature regulated or insulated for additional protection. ISO tanks can be labeled hazardous or non-hazardous, depending on the type of liquid or gas it will contain. Almost all hazardous ISO tanks will need a special lining to prevent corrosion.

Hazardous ISO tank

A hazardous ISO tank is equipped with a number of safety features to prevent leaks or spills of hazardous materials. Some common safety features include a leak-proof interior lining, fire rated materials and tanks made to be installed underground.

Non-hazardous ISO tank

A non-hazardous ISO tank is approved to transport or store materials that are not a direct threat if a spill occurs. Non-hazardous ISO tanks typically hold water, feed grain and food-grade products.

Refrigerated tank

A refrigerated ISO tank is used for a wide range of products. Most of the time refrigerated tanks are used for food products to keep them safe from bacteria contamination. Refrigerated tanks are also used when storing or transporting certain volatile chemicals.

ISO tank sizing

ISO tank sizing is an important factor when choosing a tank. A smaller size tank should be used if it is needed specifically for transport, because it has to fit on a truck. Larger ISO tanks are better for stationary storage applications.
Try: ISO Tanks Worldwide provides sizing and specification information for the types of ISO tanks it sells.

Refurbished ISO tanks

Refurbished ISO tanks are used tanks that are brought back to the supplier or manufacturer. They go through the refurbishing process to bring them back to a like-new condition. The process cleans, repairs and tests the tanks for quality before they are resold.
Try: Quantum Tanks provides before and after pictures to show the results of the refurbishing process.

Food grade ISO tank

A food grade ISO tank meets the standards to be used in food storage and transport. These standards include sanitation, insulation for temperature control and internal mixers for products containing glycol.
