The Nokia 7100 mobile phones series began in 1999 with the release of the Nokia 7110 cell phone, a model most notable for its pioneering WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Internet browser feature. As a Finnish company, Nokia developed this first model of their 7100 series model only for the Western European marketplace.

The Nokia 7100 cell phone series progressed with the 7160 and 7190 models. Each had even more upgraded features and was geared for the American market.

Nokia 7100 features have included:

Easy access to Internet text content via their WAP-enabled browser
Optimization for reading and entering text information
Viewable text in varying font sizes and styles
A phone keypad enabled for entering Chinese language characters
Scrolling menus and phonebook functions
