Online Package Tracking Services Key Terms
Intake some key terms for online package tracking services
In most cases, online package tracking services are convenient and easy to use. Knowing key terms helps package trackers learn the location of their packages. They help the user understand the different ways that a package is tracked and the options for gaining information about your mail. Tracking number and track-by-reference are both ways that you look up information about your package. Acceptance scan, arrival scan, and billing information received all let you know the status of your mail. Track and confirm by email is an option that you have for receiving information about your mail.
Tracking number
A tracking number is a special number assigned to packages by the carrier. This unique number is printed on the label so that both people and machine scans read it. This number is used to identify the location of the package.
Try: Discover more about tracking numbers from Pack Track.
Track by reference
Track by reference is a means of tracking shipments. To track by reference without an account number, enter references given by the shipper such as destination, shipping date and more.
Try: View information from FedEx to learn more about track by reference tracking options.
Acceptance scan
When tracking a package, you may see the term acceptance scan. Acceptance scan means that your shipment was received by the post office and is ready to begin the shipping process to you.
Try: Read a definition for acceptance scan in an article about tracking shipments at eHow. Go to the Tips section at the bottom of the page.
Arrival scan
If the term arrival scan appears in your package shipment tracking, your package has arrived at the post office in which your local carrier collects your mail. You will receive the package very soon.
Try: Read answers to a question about arrival scans from Yahoo Answers.
Billing information received
Billing information received means that UPS has collected information about the package from the shipper. However, the actual shipping process may not have begun. In fact, UPS may not have even received the package.
Try: Gain information about the term billing information received from A1 Tracking. Look under the heading “What events are recorded about packages?”
Track and confirm by email
Track and confirm by email is an option that you have for receiving information about your shipment. USPS will send you an email stating the status of your package. You may choose to receive one email with the current status or an email every time that the status changes.
Try: The Track and Confirm section from USPS offers information about this email option. Click on the "learn more about track and confirm by email" link to view details about the feature.
