Celebrate in style with party favors that match the occasion

By Laurie Edwards
Party favors are a small, but essential, part of any celebration. Use them to help clients remember you, commemorate a special day, or set a festive mood. Think green when you choose your favors and select ones that can be reused or recycled. Buy items that people will want to use again and again.

Unify party favors with the paper goods, decoration colors, and party theme to enhance the atmosphere of a party. Think about the purpose of the get-together when you shop for party favors. Make sure they're appropriate for the occasion and the recipients.
Many favors can be personalized, so consider that as an option. But if you plan to have names or a company logo on your favors, plan ahead. Many designs must be submitted well ahead so the party-goods company has time to complete the order.

Eco-friendly party favors

With so much emphasis placed on reducing the amount of waste, party planners should think of the impact of their party favor choices on the environment. Choose party favors that have been made of recycled materials. Some party favor companies now note which of their products are made of recycled materials or can be recycled. Another idea is to give favors that guests can take home and use later. Edible favors are also a green idea.
Try: Celebrate with Style offers tips and suggestions for holding an eco-friendly party.

Photo cookies

One unique idea for party favors that is also eco-friendly is to choose a favor that is edible. Photo cookies--cookies that have a picture imprinted on the icing or chocolate coating in food colors--can really make a great impression.
Try: FoodEditorials discusses photo cookies, and CookieHQ.com provides pictures and brief explanation.

Company logo favors

Engrave, emboss or imprint a company logo on favors for corporate banquets, conferences or other company events. A company logo can be placed on small items, such as keychains or pens, or on larger items from ceramic mugs to leather goods.
Try: Gifts for Professionals explains some of the many possibilities for using your company logo on party goods.

Party theme packs

Consider party theme packs to unify your party. Many party stores provide these party-kits-in-a-bag that come with matching streamers, paper goods, table decorations, favor bags, party favors and even balloons. These make party decorating easy as everything is preassembled for you. These kits are especially popular for children's birthday parties, but party theme packs are also available for other occasions.
Try: The Oriental Trading Company offers party theme packs. Their website shows pictures of the kits and, below them, has advice on planning your party around each themed kit.

Spot colors

One of the choices you need to make if you have a design printed on your party favors is whether you want it in full color or spot colors (single colors). Printing in one or two spot colors is much less expensive than doing a full-color design.
Try: The Logo Factory explains spot colors and shows how logos or other full-color designs can be printed in spot colors.

Engraved party favors

Choose engraved party favors if you're planning a wedding or an elegant party. Engraving is cutting or etching a design into metal, glass or another solid object. Engraved gifts cost more, but party guests or wedding-goers will cherish the memento.
Try: Corporate Logo describes engraving techniques and offers creative suggestions for using engraving to personalize items.
