Ring up high sales with the right point-of-sale PIN pad

PIN pads are an essential component of sales equipment, not just for large retailers but also small businesses and service providers as well. Debit cards, gift cards, benefit cards and even credit cards may need a PIN number entered along with the purchase, and for that you need a PIN pad.

Keep in mind that if you're purchasing a PIN pad to connect with an existing machine or to interact with a service you're already signed up for, the PIN pad you select must be compatible. There are three main avenues toward securing the POS PIN pads you need:

Get point-of-sale PIN pads from your credit card processing company

If you're planning to sign up with a credit card processing company, most of them will gladly provide you with credit card terminals, PIN pads, and all other necessary supplies. Look for merchant service providers that offer a full range of physical and virtual credit processing services, and will outfit you with wired and wireless credit card terminals and point-of-sale supplies including PIN pads. Companies geared toward serving small businesses will supply you with credit processing and point-of-sale supplies, including PIN pads, when you sign up for their services.

Select your POS PIN pads as part of a package deal

While may credit card processing companies provide credit card processing equipment which is used for debit, EBT and EMV transactions as well, not all of them do. Fortunately you can purchase all the transaction processing equipment you may need, including POS PIN pads, and save some money in package deals.

Buy a POS PIN pad direct

You can purchase your point of sale PIN pad directly from producers and retailers, independent of credit card terminals or other transaction equipment. Be warned that your ability to use this equipment may be contingent upon your credit card processor. This is the perfect solution if your POS PIN pad has become damaged and you don't want to buy another directly from your processor, but you need to make sure that the PIN pad you purchase is compatible with your transaction processing terminal and your credit card processor's system.

• Rental fees for POS equipment, including PIN pads, are often included in your contract with a credit card processing company. Before you sign on the dotted line, crunch some numbers to find out whether you could save yourself money by purchasing the equipment outright instead of leasing or renting it.
