Rubber Bands Applications and Uses

Interesting information on rubber bands and their uses

By Paula Papp
Rubber bands are small pieces of latex and rubber shaped in the form of loops. They are generally used to hold many items together. Stephen Perry Bobstein originally patented the rubber band in 1845.

Most other types of rubber products contain synthetic rubber, but rubber bands are manufactured with natural rubber from the sap of a rubber tree. This gives the band a superior amount of elasticity. There is a multitude of rubber bands applications and uses, including:

1. stabilizing large pallet loads which are usually sold as bulk rubber bands and are very large;

2. helping to grip bottles or cans with twist-off tops for those with medical conditions such as arthritis; putting tubes with the rubber on them on mandrels and then applying heat;

3. utilizing large rubber bands in resistance based exercise programs for weight training activities in therapy and gym like settings.

Buy custom rubber bands to help secure large products and save money

By using custom sized rubber bands, such as those used to stabilize pallets of products, your business will save money by eliminating the use of shrink wrap, plastic type films or tape and stretch wrap. This also eliminates clogging landfills with loads of plastic. Since these are reusable, this eliminates the costs of tape, plastic films and shrink wrap.
Try: Aero Pallet Bands has a variety of sizes of rubber bands which can be used to secure products on pallets and other large sized inventory. U.S. Cargo Control makes rubber mover bands, which are extra large to secure moving covers around furniture.

Teach your patients to use rubber bands as assistive devices if they have arthritis-like conditions

Conditions such as arthritis may make it difficult to grip/grasp a drinking glass, jar or any other glass object securely, especially if it is wet. By wrapping a few rubber bands around the glass object, it becomes easier to grip.
Try: Dykema Rubber Band makes many different styles and sizes of rubber bands which enhance gripping for those affected by conditions such as arthritis. Alliance Rubber, one of a number of rubber band manufacturers, has a very large inventory of rubber bands of all sizes that can also be used for gripping as well. Both of these rubber band providers sell rubber bands in bulk as well as smaller quantities.

Use exercise rubber bands for your gym/physical therapy business to help patients gain strength

Many physical therapy and gym programs incorporate weight resistance exercise to tone muscles by using the patient's own strength. Using rubber bands, results are seen much sooner, which allows the patient to maintain a healthy weight.
Try: Iron Woody Fitness carries a full line of printed rubber bands used for exercises and physical therapy on patients who need weight training programs. Pacillo's also carries a variety of resistance bands that focus on increasing muscle mass and improving muscle function.
