Stadium Seating Key Terms
Learn stadium seating terminology before making your purchase
Contrary to what some people may think, the term “stadium seating” does not refer to the seats found in an athletic stadium or arena. Stadium seating rather refers to the arrangement of seats in a venue. Unlike traditional seating, stadium seating is tiered or stepped and may be found in cinemas, auditoriums, concert halls, theaters and churches. While some stadium seating may be permanently fixed, others may be retractable. This feature enables the organization to hide seating when an event is not occurring.
Telescopic platforms
Telescopic platforms are useful in arenas, stadiums and auditoriums. One can chose from a variety of platforms ranging from a low-rise platform that one could place folding chairs on to platforms manufactured with permanently mounted seating. In terms of platform materials, one can select from aluminum, carpet and panelam.

Bleachers
Bleachers today are very different from the uncomfortable wooden bleachers of yesteryear. Today, one can select bleachers made of plastic that are durable, designed for comfort and can match any school color. Accessories for bleachers include backrests, back supports and combination seating.

Retractable seating
Retractable seating is similar in appearance to telescopic seating. The difference is that with retractable seating, when the arena or venue is not in use, the individual has the option of "retracting" the seats and opening up floor space for other activities.
Try: Refer to Audience Systems webpage for not only information on retractable seating but also for an animation video on how retractable seating operates.
Cinema seating
New and newly renovated cinemas are integrating stadium seating in their theaters much to the delight of moviegoers. These newly outfitted theaters not only offer tiered seating, but contoured chairs some equipped with lounger backs or rockers.

Auditorium seating
Auditoriums on campuses of colleges and universities often serve as lecture halls for students and therefore require specialized seating that is not only comfortable, but also equipped with tablet arms that enable students to take notes and tests.
