Stretch wrap is vital part of shipping for most companies, especially those that ship by the pallet. Plastic film wrap, or stretch wrap, is plastic covering that is wrapped around pallets and multiple products to hold them in place while they are transported. New stretch wrap customers may find some of the lingo used by providers confusing. When you familiarize yourself with stretch wrap key terms, you can shop with ease and confidence.

Knitted pallet wrap

Knitted pallet wrap, or pallet netting, is stretch wrap that is reinforced with strips of material or thick plastic. Knitted pallet wrap is normally made from polyethylene film and is specially designed to work with pallets. This type of wrap is extremely durable and long lasting.

Cast film

Cast film is stretch wrap that has been melted and sent through a die to flatten it. Cast film is durable and strong. Many stretch wrap products used or are made from cast film.

Eco-wrap

Eco-wrap is environmentally friendly stretch wrap. The wrap is biodegradable and made of recycled plastics. Eco-wrap is stronger than most other stretch wrap.

Tensile strength

The tensile strength of stretch wrap is the amount of weight the wrap can hold or the amount it can be stretched before it breaks. Tensile strength is measured in weight per square inch.

LDPE

LDPE, or Low Density Polyethylene, is a type of plastic used in stretch wrap. LDPE is the most durable type of stretch wrap. It is flexible and is available in clear or opaque forms.

Top sheeting

Top sheeting is the plastic or cardboard barrier that is placed on the top of the pallet to protect against rain or add stability to the pallet. Top sheeting is between 1/8 of an inch to 1/2-inch thick and can be purchased in clear or colorful options.
