Canada has a single-payer health care system, and most of the funding for hospitals in Canada comes from the government. The reputation of Canada's hospitals overall is quite good, though none made the top-50 list in the Ranking Web of World Hospitals.

Ranking at number 57 worldwide was the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, which is Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital. The addictions treated include drugs, gambling, and smoking.

Ranking 97 worldwide was the London Health Sciences Centre, in Ontario. This is Ontario's largest employer, and includes several hospitals: South Street Hospital, University Hospital, Victoria Hospital, and Children's Hospital. It also includes several research centers and medical centers. In all the facilities combined, London Health Sciences treats about a million patients a year.

Vancouver Coastal Health was 135 on the list. It, too, serves a million people. There are approximately 20 hospitals in the Vancouver Coastal System, including St. Mary's Hospital, BC Children's Hospital, Richmond Hospital, and Lions Gate Hospital.

Because Canada has a single-payer system, small business owners in Canada, unlike those in the United States, don't have to worry about providing insurance for their employees.
