Unfortunately, the wide variety of duties can sometimes lead to a misunderstanding of the actual range of activities allowable for medical assistants. As a medical assistant, you'll often be mistaken for a physician's assistant, who diagnoses and treats patients while being supervised by the physician. While medical assistants receive medical training to perform their duties, the depth of training isn't of the same level as the physician's assistant. The duties may overlap, but only superficially.
While there are many practices without physician's assistants, there are very few without medical assistants.
