There are several types of healthcare businesses that can benefit from employees with training in radiology. These fields of study lead to competent technicians that can properly use, maintain, and read imaging equipment such as x-ray machines and MRIs. It is not unusual for medical office managers and supervisors to hire trained employees with an education from one of the accredited radiology schools over other candidates with less education. In some cases, medical offices and institutions will offset the cost of radiology education for a current employee. This practice provides the employee with more, useful education and certificates, while offering the office a much needed professional in radiology.
Students are required to study a wide variety of subjects when attending one of the radiology schools. Anatomy and physiology, different pathologies, especially of the bones and soft tissues, as well as radiology technology are common study courses for the student. Other specialized courses may include prenatal ultrasound, in addition to pediatric or geriatric modalities. The length of the course work varies from school to school and will also depend on the student's former education as well. Some students, such as those with a nursing background, often already have much of the necessary coursework completed.
