Owning or renting appliance dollies is an ideal way to prevent workplace injuries while moving heavy items. Appliance dollies are most commonly used for vending machines, freezers, washers, dryers, refrigerators, and stoves, but many models can be adapted for other business and household moves as well.

An appliance dolly is similar to a utility dolly or hand truck in that it has two handles that are approximately chest-high, two wheels at the base, and a ledge on which to situate items. Unlike a hand truck, however, an appliance dolly comes with an adjustable strap that is attached to the dolly, can be wrapped around the appliance to be moved, and can be locked again at the other side of the dolly. This strap allows you to move bulky and heavy items without fearing that they will fall off the dolly.

Many models can accommodate loads as high as 500 pounds. Some models offer an offset tightener handle or ratchet tightener that you can adjust for more stability when pushing or pulling the object. High-end models are often lightweight and come with bumper guards that protect against metal-on-metal friction damage.
