Did you know that injection molding is the most common method of part manufacturing? This type of molding is perfect for creating large numbers of the same item. In fact, many of the objects we see and use on a daily basis were manufactured through the injection process. This includes bottle caps, molded plastic packaging, hair combs, plastic storage containers, toothbrushes, toys, buttons, automotive parts, plumbing pipes, and much more.
For the injection manufacturing process, the material to be molded is placed in a heated barrel and mixed. It is then forced into a mold cavity where it is allowed to cool and harden to the shape of the mold. The molds are typically made of steel or aluminum and are designed by an industrial engineer to measure specific product dimensions.
Manufacturing molds for the injection process can vary in price; however, they may be rather expensive if they are complex and contain several cavities. But, although the initial price may be large, the cost per molded piece is incredibly low. This is why many companies prefer to use injection manufacturing.
