A Guide to Event Liability Insurance

When hosting that special event, you don’t want anything to take away from the fun. Therefore, purchasing event insurance before hand is very important. As the host, you may be responsible for anything that happens to those in attendance.  Even if you aren’t, you can still be sued and falsely claimed to be the person at fault. Don’t let a simple accident end up costing you more than the event itself.

What kinds of events are covered? Baby showers, confirmations, engagement parties, weddings, graduation parties, and the list goes on. Literally any event which you are hosting is considered an event worth getting insurance. You cannot be watching every guest, and in the case that someone trips over a tent pole or falls off a table, you don’t want to be financially responsible.

When it comes to purchasing your event insurance you want to be sure it covers property damage and bodily injury. Property damage is especially important if you are renting space from another company. If a guest punches a hole through the wall and then flees the party, you are the one responsible as the renter. In this case, your insurance will cover all legal fees including defense charges and court fees. However extreme this may sound, it is a good idea to overestimate your guests’ abilities to cause problems. If nothing happens, at the very least you can enjoy the party knowing you have coverage.

Bodily injury is important if someone is harmed while at the party. Because you can’t control whether your brothers get into a fight or not, this will protect you against any acts of violence. Also consider if someone falls on the dance floor. While you may have not even been on the premises at the time, you are legally responsible. Having insurance will cover all medical costs including surgery, follow up appointments and first aid fees.

When choosing your insurance, though, be sure to know all the details. While it is common for most insurance agencies to cover these, sometimes the fine print can leave out details that you don’t know about. Having insurance is only helpful if every aspect of the event is covered.

An extra feature that may be important for your party is coverage for alcohol-related accidents. If you have an open bar, this is especially important. Hiring proper bar tenders should hopefully help avoid any problems, but there are always people that drink too much. When that happens, you don’t want to be in charge of taking care of the bills that will follow. Alcohol can be a great addition to a party, yet very dangerous at the same time.

When deciding which event insurance to choose, consider your party attendees. From there you can decide how extensive your coverage should be, which will help you decide what company will work best for you. Please see our pre-screened event insurance merchants to help make your choice.
