Admiralty law is also referred to as maritime law and establishes jurisdiction in matters of private international laws as well as in domestic laws. It governs legal situations encountered on the seas that include navigation, seaman, cargo, towage, docks, insurance, maritime liens, shipping, and maritime commerce among other issues. Ships at sea display a flag that indicates the national admiralty laws they are subject to.
