A Guide to USPS Boxes

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is a governmental agency responsible for providing postal services. Though their original services include sending mail and shipping packages, they’ve expanded to a variety of services designed to facilitate the mailing process. Additional USPS services include package tracking, mail forwarding, and business shipping services. The USPS also offers a cost-effective and easy way for individuals to ship packages through the option to order free boxes.

Types of USPS Boxes

The USPS offers a variety of free envelopes and boxes for your shipping needs. For frequent mailers and small businesses, utilizing free supplies provided by USPS can be a cost-affordable solution. The following are some of the boxes available for order:

Small USPS Boxes:
Currently, the USPS offers a single box deemed as “small”, set at about 5 by 9 by 2 inches. Small boxes are best for shipping electronics, books, and DVDs.

Medium USPS Boxes:
Three kinds of medium USPS boxes are available to customers, with the average dimensions set at about 11 by 8.5 by 5.5 inches. Because of their size, medium boxes can hold a wide variety of items, ranging from electronics to clothing.

Large USPS Boxes:
The USPS offers two different types of large boxes, with dimensions running at around 12 by 12 by 5.5 inches. One particular large USPS box offered is specifically designed to ship board games. Other ideal goods suited for large USPS boxes include laptops and care packages.

To take a look at the variety of boxes available, the United States Postal Service has a listing of their boxes.  However, for packages that exceed the USPS boxes available, individuals may need to purchase a standard, cardboard box that can accommodate the item.

Tips for Ordering USPS Boxes

When ordering USPS boxes, there are several different tips to keep in mind. First of all, individuals need to make a minimum order of about 10 to 25 boxes, depending on the size. In addition, there is a maximum order limit about 500 to 600 boxes. Boxes will take about 7 to 10 business days to arrive at your doorstep, and can be ordered in conjunction with other free shipping supplies, in order to facilitate the mailing process.

Though the USPS offers free boxes for individuals, they still need to pay to utilize mailing services. In order to facilitate the shipping and mailing process, the USPS has set domestic and international flat rates. Domestic flat rates range from about 5 to 15 dollars, while international flat rates can range from 11 to about 60 dollars, depending on the country. For an exact flat rate on different types of USPS boxes, make sure to examine prices provided by the United States Postal Service.
