Zuckerberg wants Facebook to be the most local of newspapers, the one we all want to see every time we log on - only the information we care about most.
And that means better content segmentation and improved photo design, optimized for the user. It's all about what they want to see, and who they want to connect with.
"So you take all these stories, you put them together, and what do you get? A richer, simpler and more beautiful news feed..." -- Julie Zhuo, Facebook's Design Manager
So, how does your business take advantage of the new Facebook "newspaper?"
Get Your Company Involved
These new Facebook changes are all about the "story" -- the story that their friends are telling and the one your business has to tell, as well.
From the new Photos Feed, to increased photo size for greater prominence, this is a great opportunity to be seen in a way that stands out to your customers.
- If you aren't already, it's time to start sharing photos of company events, inside views of the office, etc. Make your photos interesting to make the most of the new space allotted to them.
Take Advantage of Cover
The best way for you to take advantage of this new "rich photos" design is to optimize your own page with a great cover photo. If you're a restaurant, use your best mouthwatering photo, for example. This is your chance to entice customers, whether you show up in their newsfeed or not.
Now your customers can choose what they see in their feed, and one of the feeds to choose is the "Following Feed" -- which is where your brand page will live. The greatest part about this change? It shows updates in chronological order, making it easier to be seen by customers even if your post can't compete with one that's getting 50 likes, etc.
Your customers are turning to Facebook to see where their friends are going, and Facebook wants that information to be shared and seen. Be sure you're using check-ins and locations so that happy customers can share your business for you and their friends can, too.
Whether we like it or not, Facebook's evolution will continue to dictate how you talk to your customers within that platform. So, what can you do? Stay up to date and be evolving; leverage the changes for your benefit.
