With 300 million monthly active users, Google+ has attracted brands interested in building their own social empires. But, is it making a difference? The recent big shakeups happening on the team have left many users wondering, will Google+ stay around?
For the time being, there have been no announcements that the product will go away. One might also argue that if you don't play, you risk the chance of lowering your SEO impact for two reasons: Google Authorship and Author Rank - hands down the largest benefits of Google+.

Google Authorship is where you tie a piece of content back to your Google+ profile and if that piece of content ranks in the SERPs (search engine results page), your picture will appear next to it. Author Rank uses information gathered through the Authorship program to attribute a level of authority to writer's body of work, which is then used as a ranking factor in the SERPs (search engine results page). Both of these pieces are important for higher click through rate on a piece of content and potential greater author visibility in search results.
