A Guide to Network Communication ICs
An integrated circuit is an electronic circuit that is derived from a semiconductor chip. These chips are comprised of a number of components, including diodes, transistors and microprocessors. Integrated circuits can be used for a variety of applications, but have commonly been utilized in manufacturing and computer engineering purposes. Today, integrated circuits can be seen virtually anywhere, from computers, phones, and other various appliances.
Components of an Integrated Circuit
An integrated circuit is comprised of a number of components, each that play an important, specific role in the function of the chip. The diode is an electronic devise that controls the current flow, and can be switched on and off. In addition, the diode will only allow the flow to travel in a specific path, ensuring that the current flows properly throughout the chip. Transistors are also an important component for the chip, acting as a stabilizer. In addition to storing voltages, transistors can also be utilized for amplifying signals. Finally, another critical component of the integrated circuit is the microprocessor. Often considered the most important aspect of a chip, the microprocessor is similar to an operating system. Comparable to a “brain”, the microprocessor supplies memory that can be used to perform certain operations. Once placed together, these components allow the chip to perform an endless amount of functions, useful for a variety of applications.
Benefits of Network Communication ICs
In recent years, integrated circuits have been adapted in order to apply to communication networks. This move has allowed communication networks to gain distinct advantages, as integrated circuits provided a number of benefits to communication networks. First of all, an IC allows a network to become more efficient as it reduces the need for extraneous systems and removes redundancy. The IC also allows the communication network routers to become more reliable, as the system prevents network blockage, allowing for more robust networks. An additional advantage of the network communication IC arises from its relative simplicity, as engineers and developers are able to translate the chip to a variety of settings and applications.
