A programmable logic controller (PLC) is a computer-like device, used for the automation of electromechanical processes. The PLC possesses a small microprocessor that reads and understands language specific to the device. Generally, the code is written on another computer, and is then loaded onto the PLC, which operations through function only. The Development of PLCs

Programmable logic controllers were first developed in response to the automobile industry, when manufacturers started to see the need for automation. Home Study Courses:
There are a number of independent resources that can allow the individual to obtain training on his or her own. These resources can take a variety of forms, ranging from internet courses to study books. Home study courses allow the individual to set their own schedule and pace, at an affordable cost. However, it may be difficult for an individual to learn on their own, or without a certified instructor.

Taught Classes:
For individuals that are looking for training with more direction, they can choose to enroll in a taught class. Oftentimes, these classes are lead by a certified instructor, who possesses significant training and years of experience. However, the pitfalls of taught classes are that they may be expensive or may be restricted to a tight schedule.
