There are many large airline carriers based in Asia. The largest is China Southern Airlines, which not only ranks as number one in Asia for the number of passengers carried but also ranks as number five in the whole world. The airline uses 422 planes, each identified with a distinctive red-and-white flower painted on a blue background. Other large airlines in China are China Eastern Airlines and Air China Limited.
Japan Airlines, often identified by the logo JAL, serves 221 airports in 40 countries and regions. Its fleet includes both narrow- and wide-body airplanes. It is known for its luxurious service, including leather-upholstered fully-reclining seats in first class on some flights.
Korean Air flies to 115 cities in 39 countries. In August 2011, Korean Air started providing service between New York and Asia in luxurious two-level A380 jets. The lower deck contains 12 first-class suites, while the upper deck contains 94 business-class sleeper seats that unfold into flat beds.
Other airlines in Asia include Cathay Pacific Airlines, AirAsia, Thai Airways, and Malaysia Airlines. Many of these airlines offer a choice of different levels of service to accommodate budget travelers, luxury travelers, and those who are in-between.
