Are there any good free courses for learning web design?
I have been working as an IT administrator for the last 7 years but now I want to make a shift in my career. I want to become a web designer and be really good at it.
Can you suggest some good free online courses? I found this guide on https://www.webemployed.com/free-web-development-courses-certifications/.
It shares some courses but they are all related to web development. I am searching specifically for web design courses.
Hi Denise! I wanted to add that you should take advantage of the fact that you live in a flourishing city like Denver, where there are likely many local opportunities and resources for learning web design.
Have you considered attending coding or web design boot camp? This type of training is not free, but you get to build a portfolio as you go through the courses which can make it easier to find a job after without ever having any clients.
Upon graduating, some training programs will write you a reference or use their network to set you up with job interviews.
People have varied opinions on if coding boot camps are worth the investment or not. There is another question on Business.com that may help you decide if this is something you would be interested in and learn a lot from: https://www.business.com/advice/answers/question/should-i-send-my-team-to-coding-boot-camp/
Like many people have already said, boot camps, udemy.com or youtube videos are super helpful! I'm sure you can find web design podcasts as well.
Would also like to piggy-back off Taylor's answer and mention attending MeetUps are also a great way to learn and meet people in your industry (this goes for anything, not just web design).
You can usually find meetups that are free, and the topics can vary. But I think this is a great way to get your foot in the door, meet people and learn new skills.
Here is the link where you can search for your location:
I know Udemy is updating several web design courses but I would strongly suggest looking at some YouTube videos if you are a beginner.
Also, you can seek online and find great discounts and free courses from tutors themselves when announced.

Take advantage of YouTube.
There are so many talented web design instructors offering free videos on YouTube. You can develop beginner level web design skills using only these free videos. Here are some popular web design YouTubers I would recommend you.

It depends on how in-depth you would like to go. Team Treehouse is a great online resource for learning coding, etc. If you just want to be more on the design side of things, I would focus on Photoshop or Figma.
I'd recommend teachable.com, there's a lot of free course available inside.

I have to recommend YouTube as well. I've learned a ton about how to build my Wordpress blog from different how-to videos. At one point about 3 years ago, I stumbled on different open-source localhost software, too. If you want to get into learning the various free CMS's out there with hands-on experience and avoid spending any money, I also recommend looking into Wamp and Mamp servers, just search for them on Google. You can download and install Wordpress (Joomla and some others too, I believe) on a Wamp or Mamp server and completely build a website offline for free with these. It actually takes a lot of the stress out of accidentally breaking something when the site isn't really online. Uploading it to a server is pretty easy if you make one that you want to take live. Good luck!
Conciseness of forms, harmony of colors and shades, creative selection of fonts, icons, illustrations, take advantage of fast-moving market trends, competent technical implementation-all this requires special seriousness and care. Amateur design can play a cruel joke on the reputation of your company. Therefore, professional design, created by a staff of experienced specialists, has a number of undeniable advantages.
Web Development is one of the highest-paid jobs in the development community and is done using proper guidance. Since web development comprises various learning stages which include:
And this list goes on and on. So following a proper path is a must, trust me I have tried all the free resources available over the internet however landed in coding ninjas, and I am fully happy with my decision.
There was almost no regret for buying their course as they offered an industry-leading course. (this course eventually becomes free for me with an extra buck to know how? read it till last)
Now coming to the point why I chose the coding ninjas course over other free alternatives:
They had a proper path of learning i.e. they followed a bottom-up approach by starting to form the basics and taking it to the advanced level. This gets very helpful as my basics got so strong.
I could clear my doubt as there were Teaching Assistants available just to solve the student’s doubts.
As this course is well structured there were timely assignments, projects, and tests that kept me in check, and I was eventually got myself in a loop to study well. This is one advantage over the free course as we don’t have any foundation to complete the course or have any tests.
The main perk is certification, they provide the student who completes the course and passes the test with valuable certificates.
There are many features of coding ninjas over free stuff. If you still have a doubt, get a free trial and decide for yourself.
Yes, I didn’t forget to tell you how I ended up getting this course for free. You can also get it for free by getting yourself selected for Teaching Assistant who is paid approx 30k, this can be done, if you do your course very well and get selected for Teaching assistant.
