What is the best MAC-based statistics software?
What's a good statistics software platform for generating crosstabs for thousands of records with hundreds of variables, but runs on a MAC (or a PC in a pinch)?
SigmaXL that operates both on windows and mac. Mac just released the Minitab Express a condensed version of the full package that has been windows based for quite some time. I can't wait enough to see Minitab come around for Mac. Otherwise you always have JMP that has been traditionally available for quite some time.
I would go with Microsoft Excel 2016 for Mac. Basically because you can export your data to any computer and it runs better than it's older version (Excel 2011 for Mac).
The numbers is a good software only if you intend to do basic spreadsheets, with a good look on it, since it lacks the same level of refinements for formulas and macros that the Excel offers. But keep in mind that the Mac OS X runs different from the Windows, so there some formulas and spreadsheets that you can only do on the Windows counterpart.
Thanks. I actually found that Excel via Office 365 gives me the pivot table functionality I need IF I run it on a PC. For some reason, the features are limited when run on a Mac. I see what you mean about the Numbers platform.
numbers actually has a lot of versatility. But you're old stand by would be excel. Office runs on both platforms these days.
The advantage of SigmaXL over MS Excel is that it operates as an add-on in MS Excel and so the database and operating SW are on the same system. I am not sure if there are other analytical packages that would do the same at the investment offered.
