Do I have to link a business Facebook page to a personal Facebook account?
I initially created a business Facebook page from within my personal Facebook account because I could not figure out how to just create a business page. I am hiring someone to handle my social media, but am not comfortable with it being connected to my personal Facebook account. Is there a way to separate these accounts?
Carrie hiring and giving a total admin access to to expert or agency isn't a bad idea. But you should have the owner access all the time. As Ben said you can create and club all pages in Business manager. This is great idea.
I'm going to ask you a question in answer to your question. Would you hire someone who had no knowledge of your business or industry who had no qualifications and send them to a professional network meeting with no brief and free reign to do what they want in your businesses name?
That would be unthinkable wouldn't it?
Well, I'm afraid that is exactly what you are contemplating by hiring someone to handle your social media and the network meeting you are sending them to is with the whole wide world.
DANGER!
There is no professional body governing social media marketing. No code of conduct. No agreed upon ethics and standards. No recognized qualifications. Anyone can set themselves up in business and call them selves a social media expert or specialist.
Thus my answer is.
Whoa there! Take ten steps back and ask the right questions before you even get anywhere near ready to asking the one did.
I am going to go against popular opinion here and say yes, you can separate your personal page from your business page though I am not sure you need to for the reasons others have outlined. You can set up a Business.Facebook.com account which allows you to manage multiple pages and advertising accounts. If you do this, the business account becomes the owner of the page and you can assign / remove yourself or others as you see fit with or without personal profiles. There are advantages and disadvantages you should review first if you decide to go this route.
What are your concerns with having it connected to your personal Facebook profile?
Through prudent privacy settings on your personal profile, and by carefully switching between acting as your personal profile and the page on Facebook, you should be able to easily conceal to the public your ownership of the business page.
Once you hire someone to manage your social media, you will need to add that individual's personal profile as an Administrator (or editor or other privilege level) to the business page.
Like everybody said, you can't create a business page without having a personal account. Just do this Carrie. And I would advise you to have only one account on Facebook.
How to create page - A tiny triangle at the top right extreme of your Facebook account that opens in a drop down and you'd see the create page option. It would just create a page. For the makeover and complete set up, you're hiring someone. Just keep following the directions quickly and you will create a page.
Once you're done, you'd see yourself on a page. Go to Settings (top right just before help tab), find Page roles tab from left sidebar. Add this person's email id and he would be able to create and manage your page without having access to your personal account ever. You can add as many as admins as you want. And even remove whenever you wish.
For a safer side, you can assign only Editor permissions initially.
Hope this helps.
You'll want to check out Business Manager to decide what's the best approach for you:

Great question, Carrie. As you discovered you cannot create a page without first creating a personal profile. On your Page, under Settings, you have Page Roles. You would want to be the Admin. I always recommend that you assign someone else (whom you trust who has to like the page) to be a second Admin. This is a safety measure that if for some unknown reason you should breach one of Facebook's Terms of Service and they shut down your personal account - and yes, I know people that it happened to in the past - you would still be able to access your page through the other Admin's log in.
When you go there, or you can click/copy this link: https://www.facebook.com/help/289207354498410 it will explain the different roles and how to assign someone to a specific role. Hope this helps!
You cannot create a page without first creating a personal profile (or using an existing one), but the page is never in any way publicly linked to your personal profile - unless you want it to. But, that is only after you specifically set it so in the Settings.
Yes all business pages are attached to a personal profile, but making someone an admin on your business page does not give them access to your personal account. The person handling your social media should know this.
Business Manager works good - on paper. In reality it's an unintuitive mess, sadly.
