What are the guidelines for filing an EIN with a DBA name?
Hi quick question, this is my first time ever filing for an EIN. It will be a single-member LLC. I am curious about the legal name portion. Our name is WestPoint Supply.
Does it make a difference if I register the legal name as such or should I register as West Point Supply (as the legal name) and include that we are doing business as Westpoint Supply?
Am I overthinking this? Would this cause issues for my customers to write checks and such?
I think the answer is actually two-fold. The EIN is registered through the Federal Government and is a unique identifier to your organization. If you registered your EIN under your LLC name, and not you as an individual - you're good to go.
If you registered the EIN under your personal name, you can then list the DBA. But, you'll also have to file a Fictitious Name registration with the State in which you're transacting business.
Hoping this helps,
