How can I set up the SEO for my website myself?
I have a firm based in Bangladesh, and am looking to do the SEO for my website myself. I bought webhosting, but I'm not sure where to start. What is the best way to go about setting up SEO for my website myself?
If you are using WordPress and want to DIY, I recommend one of two plugins: All-in-One-SEO or WordPress-SEO-by-Yoast. Each has more than one million active installs. My personal favorite is WordPress-SEO-by-Yoast. Joost is considered the go-to-guy when it comes to SEO. - The Pragmatic Web Designer.
Think about key words that describe your business best. Consider how people will search for you and your business, make sure your website is connected to as many online platforms as possible, and get your social networking up to date. Theres also a ton of companies you can hire to do this sort of thing for you, but it does have the capacity to be expensive so tread carefully.
To keep things simple there are two sides to SEO: so-called "on-page" and "off-page".
On-page SEO concerns presenting your web page as optimally as possible for the keyword/keyphrase content for which the page has been created - e.g. the title of the page, h1 / h2 / h3 title and subtitle tags, how the URL of the page is presented, how you name any images that appear in the page, any links to external sites, and so on. All of the above is quite easy to do regardless of how you've created your website.
Off-page SEO can be a little more complex. This refers to the adding and population of certain elements within the page code itself, which is seen by search engines to help them decide on whether to show the particular page in a search results page. If you have built your website using a Content Management System (such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, etc.) then it's quite easy to add these extra tags either directly or via a plug-in.
If you've built your site purely in HTML, using (e.g.) DreamWeaver then you will need to manually create the additional code for each page.
If you have created your site using one of the 'one-stop' website hosting services such as SquareSpace, wordpress.com, WIX, Weebly, etc then you will need to check with those guys as to what control you're offered.
Regarding what, precisely, you need to do: there is tons of information on the web. A good place to start is this guide from MOZ: http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo
Do you want to become an SEO expert or sell your products/services? SEO is a full time job.
There is a lot involved in SEO, while you can defenitely learn a lot as well as applying it, you have to be aware that is is a tough game to play, to honest even well established SEO consultancies often get it wrong. Since you are starting from scratch, plan your site first, pick the platform/technologies you want to start with and move on into building a good website that is engaging and responsive(I would avoid a one page website where the menu selects anchors within the same page as navigation), from there move on to OnPage Optimization and building your Social Media pages, make your design consistent across all channels for branding. From there you will need to sort out your OffPage strategy, as well as some advanced content analysis and competitor analysis. This bit would probably be best left to someone experient, if money is an object, try to establish a colaboration or a relationship that would be mutually beneficial between you and and experient person/business. From then on as Chad VanCalster mentions, it is a full time job, and you are likely to need someone for that purpose, as it take years to become even mid-weight never mind expert.
There are some major things to be kept in mind. Before applying any sort of SEO please decide what kind of business do you own or what kind of website are u applying the SEO for. Different Analytic tools can be used for different purposes. The main things to be kept in mind are.
1. Sitemap - please apply a proper sitemap to your website to make your presence known on search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
2. Usage of proper meta tags in your header for best results.
3. Choose the keywords effectively and efficiently.

Sometimes we have to blend reality with desirability. The best thing to do of course is to hire a pro to do your SEO, that is desirability. Reality is that sometimes starting in we must watch our costs and do things ourselves as best we can. That is reality.
There is a lot of good information about doing SEO. I have 6 or 8 websites for my business and have always done my own SEO. I used to get a lot of calls and emails from people wanting to do SEO on my websites. Just for the fun of it I always searched on Google to see how the company who wanted to do my SEO came out on their own and most often they were nearly nowhere to be found. One time a company called me and the search for SEO firms showed them at the top of the list. I bit the bullet and tried them on two sites. My traffic went down markedly.
Read a bit about how to properly do your titles description and to incorporate search terms in those titles and site description. Keywords don't mean much any more but I still put them in. Learn how to incorporate keywords into the body. Make sure to use your main keywords in the headings if possible and at least once in the first sentance. Try to incorporate some into your page url.s when possible. If you can get one into your site URL that is a big plus.
I put very little time and effort into SEO for my sites but still come out great on searches. You can do a decent job yourself but when you can afford it then a pro can help your site be found even better. Sometimes we just have to do what we have to do.
Hi Shariful - how are you building your website? Reason I ask, is if you're building your site on WordPress as an example, there are plugins, like Yoast, that guide you what you need to do on your pages to get a good SEO result.
Most platforms have guides. Just remember there are a lot of technical elements to getting great SEO results, so if you're not technical / have web developer knowledge, you may be better off hiring someone who is to get it right, especially if SEO is going to be super important to your business. Also, research for SEO guides - there's lots out there available to read through.
Good luck, Louise.
