How do I adjust my SEO settings to rank higher on search engines?
I currently managed my companies website - www.dlncatering.co.za. Editing content, etc. is no problem but generating traffic to the site, as well as ranking higher on search engine searches is what I am finding difficult to manage. I have a very basic understanding of SEO settings, but I think it is too basic. Any advice, recommended platforms from which to learn about SEO settings will be greatly appreciated.

Agree with rest of community members that hire professional. Your website needs a lot of improvement in terms of web design and development.
To deliver best user experience, your website should be appealing so that they stay a moment longer or look around other pages of your website.
To make your website more appealing and attractive, involve following points:
1. Incorporate responsive Design
2. Include Call to Actions
3. Use Intuitive Navigation
4. Proper use of color contrast and font.
In addition for SEO, if you are beginner then I would preferred to avoid DIY SEO.It would be dangerous for your business. In SEO point of view, your website is lacking in following points:
1. Meta Tags ( missing target keywords in title and description)
2. Alt tag is missing
3. URL is not optimized properly.
4. Website is not really integrated with social media, just a few icons for your own pages on social media.
5. Missing H1 Tag
Hope you will work on these issues
I would suggest to go with reputable web design and SEO company. Fee free to discuss you issues any time http://bit.ly/1rfaiYb
In addition to the countless answers here, ask yourself exactly what you would type into a search engine to find your article. (For every article)
The best way to craw up the SERPS is to incorporate a Content Marketing strategy into your marketing plans. The more good info you have going out the masses and having people click to your website thru this valuable content the more your overall site will rise up. There have been tricks in the past to make this happen quicker, but those tactics are a dying breed. Of course, you need to make sure you get the basic on page SEO done and Google Webmaster Tools (now called Google Search Console) can help walk you thru all of that.
Hello Luke, one way is to really understand what Ranking really is, it is a part of Branding your business, your name, your service, your product etc. But you should focus your efforts on is is this a local service/product or worldwide, first determine your target market, so you are not spinning your wheels it could be time consuming and non productive approach. Most people don't know or realize what "KEYWORDS" are every business entity has min 50 keywords that relate, or describe ones business/product/services is search to find which ones your business fits and you don't need to subscribe to every search engine just the major players, because there are a lot out their, and some people never look at them or they are not available in their area. So start with the Google/FB/Yahoo/Bing - High volume of users, these are the big players across the globe, and try your local search engine always first. And keep in mind it does not happen overnight this is where a lot of people get confused because they expect to see there business on the front page, does this really happen for some it does, but I can tell you they spent big money for it to happen, bigger ad, such as AD-WORD, animation etc. that's how one gets placed. But for ranking it is all about exposure within the top 1 to 50 business of the same nature or Keywords. So don't wack your brains over this learn how it actually works then your understanding and expectation will be align with each other.
You made me laugh when you said "SEO is too basic". Let me tell you that SEO is not basic it depends how much you know about it and implement it for your website promotion strategy.

Still think SEO IS BASIC? :)
Do some research on Google's SEO guidelines. You will find a wide range of info on how Google operates. That said, an effective SEO strategy goes way beyond your own website home page. One of the most important SEO elements is building quality backlinks which must be done with select sites or partners around the web.
Tune up your site first, then go fish where your fish are. Posting and interacting where they live is the best way to attract them back to your site.
The only problem is that SEO is constantly changing, and nobody wants good because They are doing things wrong. Google has been rolling out updates Panda Penguin on Google EMD (domain names exact matches), and only recently (PBN) Private Network Blog deindexed update.
To rank Well, your content must be consistent with this mission. That is why going back to the basics of SEO to help you understand the new rules of SEO, learn how to optimize for humans and robots and teacher on the side and off page optimization.
I think content marketing is your biggest opportunity to drive solid traffic to your site and you are sleeping on it and after a quick scan of page 1 results on Google, so are your competitors. For example, the site mentions that they have an unconventional approach to catering. What does that mean exactly? What does that look like? How do you display your food? Also it's OK to create content outside of your niche. For example, the company mentions doing birthdays, weddings, private dinner parties etc. You could create an in-depth resource on dinner party decorating ideas. This article http://www.housetohome.co.uk/room-idea/picture/fabulous-dining-room-decorating-ideas-for-dinner-parties has attracted over 55K shares and it's not that spectacular. You could easily create something much better. It would have wide appeal outside of your niche, which would help to get more shares and links that would push up the site's rankings. Or how about an ultimate guide to setting the perfect table or buffet. This article has attracted over 2K shares - http://www.pier1.com/how-to-set-a-table/all_about_dining,default,pg.html. This proves that there is an audience on these topics so you're taking the guesswork out of creating content. Or even something on food design or presentation ideas. I think that there are huge opportunities for you to create and promote some amazing content. Good luck!
Hire a professional. If you do not optimize your site correctly you will not get the results you want.

Hi, Luke. There really are few to no "settings" for SEO. But it's important to understand that no matter how well you're optimized with on-page techniques, you'll still get nowhere without a good web reputation or authority. That's based largely on your link popularity: the number and quality of other websites that link to you. Currently, Moz reports zero incoming links, and your Dopmain Authority, on a scale of 1-100 is only 1.
I have a good bit of information about what goes into a good SEO program on my website. See SEO on the main navigation bar. I also have a wealth of information in my SEO Blog that goes all; the way back to 2005, neatly categorized. I recommend you start with the Links category. I encourage you to check it out. I'm confident you'll find many good ideas there.
Hope That Helps,
Generating traffic can be one of the most tedious task. Firstly , as is clear from post you not good in SEO . So i would recommend ask for a SEO service but still if you want to try your hand google "High PR Social Bookmarking sites" and choose sites having PR of 6+ . You can even use Social websites like Fb, twitter ,LinkedIn.
If your website is totally new then even go for Directory Submission and search engine submissions they are a must if you want a regular continuous traffic you must go for these options.
I must tell you it is time consuming so either you should have enough time or you can hire a professional.
If you have any doubts feel free to contact me.
Consult anytime you want On https://www.elance.com/s/vishalmital/ or mail me .
The best advice I can give you is the advice that nobody wants to hear - hire a professional.
If you are asking for SEO recommendations in this manner, you are risking doing more harm than good. Approaching SEO from a DIY perspective is very dangerous for a few reasons. A) Little mess-ups can do a lot of damage if you don't know what you are doing and B) you don't really know how to measure your success so you don't even know if they are mess-ups or how your efforts are really paying off. Ranking are important and traffic is important but they are really precursors to what you really want - conversions.
In my experience, SEO is as much art as science and if it's just one thing that you do in your many duties at your company then your results will be lackluster and unpredictable at best. Just because you snap a few pictures from time to time doesn't make you a professional photographer and just because you tweak a few title tags and alt texts settings does not make you an SEO.
Are you using Wordpress? If so - install SEO Yoast and Lionscripts - SEO Yoast helps you to optimize each post as well as pages - and there is a section for registering your site with the main search engines - you need to verify each one - Lionscripts allows you to register with the search engines - google, bing, yandex, alexa, pinterest and google analytics
Next up install Nextscripts - this is another plug in that will sync your blog posts with all of the social networks you choose to sync with - you will have to go into each social network and set up the app and then sync with the website - there are instructions for all of this
Also for every picture that you upload - please give it meaningful text - if you upload a picture of someone walking their dog - do the title to reflect the post that this picture is in - always always to the alt title, the description and the title -
Last but not least - go to brandyourself.com - this is the internet reputation management tool - pay for the service - with the freebie you can only optimize 3 networks - but if you pay you get to optimize all of the networks you have - also they go out and search the internet for any mentions of you - and you get to identify which are truly you and which aren't -
Brand yourself gives you the first 100 internet mentions - and the more you identify what is you and what isn't - this will help you in your google rankings
I do this for all of my clients and myself and it works! Good luck!
I took a look at the source code of your site, and you appear to be sending the search engines to one version of your site, and visitors to another. If this is what you are doing, that needs to change.
Your Title Tags need to contain the keywords you want that page to rank for, and you also need to use your keywords in your description meta tag, but it needs to sound natural when you read it. You also need to sprinkle your keywords into your content.
Speaking of keywords, you need to do some research to find out what keywords people search when looking for your type of business. The keywords you have won't do much, and "catering" is not specific enough, and is probably too competitive for you to do SEO for it yourself.
Once you've fixed the website, then you need to market it. As a local business, you will want to have listing in the most popular directories in your country, and in your area. Do not, however, use directories primarily for linking. The old ways of linking don't work anymore. It's now a matter of reaching out to your potential clients and presenting yourself as an expert in your niche. Write articles, share your blog posts on social networking sites, participate in discussions, etc.
