How do I find companies/better advertisers for my website?
I started a gaming website 6 months ago - I have had 2 million page views in the last two weeks.
I am struggling to monetize though. Google Adsense turns me down because it isn't a blog style site (I get the "no content" message.) The current company I am working with for ads isn't having nearly the profit I would expect for 2 million page views in two weeks (generally around $400-$500 a month). Please let me know if I am incorrect and $400-$500 in a month seems like a reasonable profit.
It is a gaming website, so I was thinking maybe getting directly in contact with gaming peripheral companies would be a good route, but every time I've tried I can't even get in contact with the marketing department.
Does anyone have any tips? Should I look for a freelance marketing person to help me with this?

There are a few little tips which really help you a lot.
1. Find on google search what type of advertising company/agency you were looking for?
2. Check review and reputation.
3. Read a few feedback in brief.
4. Ask for a portfolio and reference of any exisiting client.
