How do I increase my Twitter engagement?
On a daily basis, I have to deal with numerous different Twitter accounts. I find it hard to get each of their followings up. I have tried hash-tagging and inputting images into my tweets. What else can I do to increase Twitter engagement and following?
You can add more twitter follower by sending email to your contacts and also you can become follower of other twitters users, because if you follow others twitter users then you will increase chance to get more followers. You can also buy followers from sites like SEOClerks.
There are some really great answers here. The only thing I would add to this is join twitter chats in the areas where your clients operate. Get to know your clients likes and that of their potential customers, then source information that may interest and attract the right followers (if its quality and not just quantity you're after) and share on twitter,
I am relatively new to actively using Twitter. I have found two things helpful. First follow anyone who follows you. It organically grows. Second, I split my personal tweets from my professional tweets. Staying on topics that matter to my business is important, so I have two Twitter accounts.
I am careful about images, as they need to be public, not copyrighted. I respect peoples images. It is easy to grab a slick image off the internet, however in my opinion it is not ethical. I know this is said to be an important component of building a following.
Lastly, I only use hash-tags that I know have meaning to the audience. I am trying to learn from other Tweets what is appropriate to use and when.
Getting the right followers or having more followers. Both are important because people seem to connect with you if you’re popular because it’s human nature to follow the popular rather than the niche, if you do have a lot of followers, chances are that they might know people that are the right followers for you or your business.
LISTS! Create unique lists of similar people and add members to them. Then, go to those lists daily or a few times a week and interact with those list members. Fine tune and prune your lists until you segment people into categories. For instance, I have a list for marketing experts, one for SEO experts, etc...it makes it easier to digest the information and interact. It is all about engaging with others content, and then they (hopefully, and likely!) reciprocate!
# Social media is booming this days and more and more people are connecting with it. But how to increase engagement is the biggest question. First of all, you should follow those people who matter to your business. Following anyone randomly is not profitable as Twitter allows you to follow only a limited number of people. When you will have people following you and vice versa, there are more chances that you get response for what you post there. For example if you have real estate business but there is no real estate agent in follow, who is going to get engaged with what you post? It applies on all the fields. Doctors like updates related to their profession and engineers like updates related to their profession.
# Second thing is that you post stronger content. I mean something that really excites users. Hastags are wonderful tools and they allow you to effortlessly share your content with respective people. But instead of creating your own hastag, first research the existing ones that are related to your area. Because already available hastags are already in trend, you will get better interaction with what you are posting. Making own hastag trending is hard thing so don't do that.
# Now I come to image part. As we have heard of "a photo is worth a thousand words" , post an image that really stimulate people. In many cases, an image turns out to be a real cause of engagement.
# Follow back those who have favorited and re-twitted your post. That's all I do to increase engagement and yes get good response too.
Ask questions to groups of people and banter with them over the answers.

There have been some great answers already about Twitter not being a billboard, and that it's important to create a compelling exchange between yourself, your business and your potential followers.
My personal Twitter Account @ArtsandClouds is in the Top 100 accounts in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and has been for over a year now. The status is measured not on how many followers I have, currently 5,434, but on the content which is then RT or further shared among my viewers networks.
You should always keep your viewers first by submitting quality "Thought Leadership" around and about your business and always engage and thank viewers for taking the time to read and view your content.
Be cognitive of the leaders in your business space and draw them to you by following them, commenting on their well placed content, and being reflective of their efforts and following. As the saying goes, "birds of feather". Let your viewers see that you are playing in the right leagues and that you have equally excellent advice, direction, and insight about your business. Do Not try and sell on Twitter, just educate and inform.
Feel free to interact with me directly and I'll be happy to walk you through a well designed approach. Above all else enjoy yourself, people love it when you have fun.
There are many ways to capture Twitterlings! I'm not sure how many of them that you are already implementing but I would say to tweet in the day time. You've heard the expression the "Early Bird catches the worm" - - well in this case, the "follower" Most users are active between 8am - 7pm, which give you greater interaction. You can do a search when your audience is MOST active using tweriod. Also, try and keep your characters shorter than the allowed 140 to leave room for possible commentary from another tweeter. Last, I would just say to make sure you are using images with every tweet for obvious reasons. Hope this helps.
