How much time and effort should I put into SEO per day?
How much directory submission, social bookmarking, blog posting and other off page activities is beneficial for SEO per day? What is the ideal number of submissions, 25-30 per day or what exactly?
it depends on how many niche sites you are walking on and how you run your campaigns i think 6 hours daily should be fine you write you article for 3 hours and you do your blog comments for some hours and your article syndication too
If you overdo it Google might start to view you as spammy and actually deemphasize your results. A lot of good SEO has to be with how your website is structured, how you are tagging content and images, having a site map and other "back-end" stuff.
I would never try to build 25-30 links per day unless you want a lovely spam black mark from Google. Actually I have seen sites rank better with 10 quality links in total. It really depends on your niche and competition. SEO is a huge topic but for me building quality, share-able content wins over anything.
Hi Ankit,
There is no limitation or time limit for doing SEO. What all you need to do is try to build backlinks on quality sites don't consider the quantity. Even if you are posting in a single site per day it should be a authorized and well quality site. Don't make submissions in a hurry which sometimes tends to become spammy.
I don't believe theres an actual number - but like anything else, you get out of it what you put in. If you have the time, then use the time, but Id say don't get consumed by it either. Networking and interaction between actual people is just as valuable.
1. instead of "numbers" focus on QUALITY & RELEVANCY
2. Try to build the links consistently. Do not build 10 links on one day and then do nothing for next 3 days.
Hi Ankit,
A lot of this depends on the target niches you are going after and the level of quality of the sites that you're posting to?
I think putting out GREAT content, getting it shared, engaging with your audience through social channels, goes a long way now to improving your SEO.
Of course it goes without saying that your on-page SEO needs to be established, you need to know the keywords you're going after, your choosing the right keywords based on competition (Long Tail Pro) is great for that.
But I use the rule of thumb that for every hour I create content, I spend 9 hours promoting it and engaging with people around it.
Hope that's helpful and do please give me a shout if that would be useful.
Hi Ankit, this is very tough to say to a SEO Analyst...Directory, social bookmarking and blog posting are not the only sources you will get ranking in google..
If you have the best content for your clients then you may think of it.. You must have all unique content on Web 2.0 channels..
More the content is being read and gets voting. the more people is linking back to your site, PPC is the best option to be in the results, this what big G loves..
Only directory and cheap submission won't help you in 2014..
Do Social media and come up with new strategies, like GPO, Local Citation and all..
Hope this helps..
Hi Ankit,
Wow, that's a very big question. It really depends on your competition and how much work you need to do to out rank them. If you would like to private message me your website, I'll take a look and advise from there. Thanks Ray
There is no count for directory submission, social bookmarking, blog posting and other off page activities. It is based on the competition level of a Keyword and geographical area too. All these above if you do it gradually and naturally will more fruitful
You can really tighten it up to topics and get pretty far, i.e. 3 posts a week on one topic takes its own focus, while 3 posts on another topic takes separate focus. Ideally you'll want the basic rules in your head to be 3-5 social shares per post per week, per topic. Inside of that the SEO of the article itself might range depending on how many outbound links etc you are using. (.edu etc)
There is no "ideal" number of submissions, the mot important thing is to communicate with your audience. As Austin said, your purpose is to teach, inform or entertain. Don't focus on promoting yourself, and don't just perform activities for SEO puposes. With that in mind, I would not use directory submission for SEO. Focus on a few dozen well-known directories, and make sure your profile is optimized, then update your profiles once a month. And, don't forget about networking sites, but don't just join them to get links in your profile. Participate in discussions and start discussions of your own. as far as how often, Austin has given you a good guide to go by.
The Marketing Content Mix when it comes to SEO has shown to be most effective using the "Pyramid Plan" which has 5 activity goals and their associated timelines, in descending order of usage.
1)Provide Relevant Information: 3x week
2) Teach How to Do Something: 2x week
3)Start Conversation: Weekly
4)Inspire: Bi-Weekly
5)Entertain: Monthly

The ideal SEO process involves the following components of an on-going process of optimizing your web presence:
Make sure you have the ability to
track “who” your social followers
are and “where” they go. And
then use that data to nurture.
1) Control your message.
2) Make your message consistent.
3) Put a social media policy in place.
Try not to post too much company
centric news--you will almost always
be bragging too much. We learned to
post more relevant industry and analyst
news to balance out our promotions.
Oversharing and not listening.
Social is a 2-way conversation!
Don’t just push content
links. Engage! It has to
be a conversation.
More is not necessarily better.
Post things that are relevant,
useful, and thoughtful rather
than just lots of posts.
When someone posts on a
social channel, you need to try
and immediately respond. Don’t
fall victim to poor “listening.”
Lessons learned: not linking our
social platforms together and being
too “self-focused”. Also, you need
to provide relevant content to
target audiences.
Listen using Radian6. We have a presence
across all common platforms (FB, Twitter,
LinkedIn, etc). We actively push out
promotional messages, and engage with
and respond to brand mentions.
Always test to see what works
in paid advertising. And then
constantly re-assess based on
your findings.
It can be difficult to monetize
social media when you are
learning! Try not to be too
conservative at first.
These are just a few ideas to think upon when trying to drive traffic to your site via SEO activities, daily.
I agree with point #1 with 100% certainty.
