How often should I be blogging?
I have been told that producing content is important for business. As I am preparing to launch a new business, I want to set up a blog. I am working on putting together some topics and a schedule. How often should I ideally be posting new content?
Sara, this can really vary depending on your time and resources. I will say that a good benchmark would be 1/week but more than that, just be consistent with what you end up deciding to do. I will say that our plan for all of our clients is 1/week and it works really well. With this being said, incorporate an aggregated content plan as well so you can continue to push out good & applicable content to your audience every day thru your social networks. A good plan is to find 5-10 posts on a Friday or something and then buffer these posts for the week all at one time. Good luck!
Sara, I read recently that a new blogger should post twice a week. I know that sounds like a lot, but you want to populate your blog quickly. Twice a week for a month is eight posts! I'm doing that now, and have a bunch of posts already written and ready to go in my new blog. Good luck!
Ed Drozda has given you some great advice, especially re the intent for the blog. Ideally it should be divided into thirds, 1/3rd educate, 1/3rd inform and 1/3rd sell in that order. Also invite your readers to comment or take action, depending on the type of blog post you are writing.
Hi Sara, before setting out on this journey there are a few questions you should answer. What is your intent for this blog (e.g., educate, inform, sell)? How much do you enjoy writing (e.g. are you prolific, are you a natural, you'll do it if you have to)? What sort of platforms can you submit this blog to (other than the primary platform; think mosaicHUB, LinkedIn, etc)?
Now, to your question- consistency is as importiant if not more so than frequency (though I admit I miss a week now and then). So if you set a schedule, stick to it so that your developing audience can expect and follow you. My own opinion and preference is weekly. On the long end I'd say every two weeks. I do find that those who get out there daily are a bit overwhelming for my taste. Regardless the schedule do make sure to interact with folks who comment- this is key to building (and most importantly engaging) a following.
