How to get in touch with companies to sell/distribute their products in my country?
We would like to get in touch with companies that are interested in entering African markets. We see a large need for certain products, but it has been hard to get in touch directly with these companies.
First things first is to determine what product and at least 3 manufacturers you would like to begin with and then find a reliable import/export agent preferably an experienced and established. From there find the door to door pricing and lead times.
With a reliable transporter everything else falls into place. Set up the phone like Fred said and expect to pay for everything up front and in full.
Start with a good business directory like Thomas' Register (there are others too) which will give you all the info you need. Next, get a US phone number (or one in whatever country from which you want to source products) from a service like Vonage or Magic Jack or their equivalent in your country. VOIP is inexpensive and works anywhere there's an internet connection.
You should get in touch with the commercial office at the Embassy. They should be able to help you.
There are speciality organisations that specialise in representing you with the companies you seek. Do you have the ability to import products into your country? Do you have investors who can partner with companies to supply the needed product or service?
Given the circumstances that Africa is a great place to invest in according to the last report in 2014.
I would suggest that you present your plan and approach the companies that you want to get involved with.
If you can find a way to show them that it is beneficial to them to expand in Africa than they will.
Once you get two or three company the rest will start contacting you, instead of knocking on their doors.
