How do you handle an unmotivated employee during notice period?
I run a startup firm and an employee after 3 months has decided to quit. He is currently serving a 30 day notice period. A lot of time was invested in training this person, however, the person is now taking last-minute leaves for interviews without prior notice, coming up with a number of excuses and simply doesn't seem like he wants to work. He has asked for an early release even though we have yet to onboard someone new.
As someone running a company, this is a new experience for me from the employer side. How do I handle this gracefully and make sure that we are able to transition from this employee to another in the best way possible?
First of all after hiring the employee the company should put the candidate into probation period so that company should learn the behavior of the hired person and his willingness to work in the company. Another thing if the person has resigned from the company then company should ensure the leave entitled to the person should be cancelled, and if the person take any leaves then the salary must be deducted for that leave. In such a way the company will be able to check the negligence behavior of the employee.
Hope this helps.
