How to negotiate a salary when offered a low package?
I passed an interview recently in Oman and was offered a very low salary, when compared to the living standard here. I get a free one bedroom bachelor accommodation and a food allowance that is trivial. If I were to live alone without the company accommodation I wouldn't be able to support myself. Should I try for another job, or negotiate with the company? They have offered me less than half of my expected salary.
Hard to say. Those as you state trivial items have a cost associated with them. You have to weight out how much more would you have to increase your income to offer the same life style you are being provided.
Now is this job within your reach. What I mean, do you have the education or experience to place you in suck a job with the pay to live like or better than you currently living.
Vamsi, either convey your value you can contribute to the company so they can't miss the talent like you. Or simply find another job.
I will drop a mail to them .I dont think they are keen for a new talent ,what i heard was that many people are leaving the company from my division(IT).My only reason to opt for this job is cause my family is there in Oman ,To put it in simple terms my salary offered is less than what i would be paid in India
If you are confident you can easily find an other vacancy you could skip negotiating with the first. I personally would do both though. Negotiate with the current company and see if there are any other offers around. I would also be very open about that but then again I probably come from a totally different business culture.
I said trivial cause i cant even by the cheapest burger at a fast food with the daily allowance .Its that low.To live atleast a normal single bachelor life i need to earn double what they offered.
Yes i am qualified for the job.I have the education and relevant exxperience for the job.The designation they offered is lesser than my previous role as a higher designation means company has to give a car and a good housing. My only reason for taking this job is that it is in Oman and my family is there so i want to get a job there. But here number of IT companies are too low so even getting an interview is hard.
