How do I find new clients?
I started my own web & graphics development company. Up until now I've had a lot of work with local based clients, but now my plan is to expand my client base. The last 2 month I've been surfing over the net but with little luck- I could not find a single lead. How and where should I be searching?
Think differently: How do you want new clients to find you? :)
First of all define the local of the clients that you have been servicing and then take a pen and draw a circle around your company which will indicate the area you have covered. Once you have done this, please keep me in mind that there could still be clients you have missed in this geographic area. Now extend that circumference say10 miles beyond your inner circle. You want a good distance because the bigger area you are dealing with, the more customers will be available. Now identify the zip codes that are within this outer circle. Now you need to make the investment in your business. Purchase a quality email or automated marketing system and buy lists of emails that fall within those zip codes. Don't buy the cheap lists. The more expensive the list, seems to equate to better quality leads. Create an eye catching email and you are off and running. I would also suggest either personally making the follow up calls or hire somebody with some sales skills to do them. Remember growth and expansion is not free, but you need to make sure you are realizing a positive ROI.
Hi Joshi - isn't this your time now to rise above the tides and ride those waves!
Sounds like you are of two minds: while done playing small, you haven't raised yourself above the noise of all the others playing small still.
Here's what to do, right now (contact me when you are ready to create your improved, measurable results now - it is based on Quantum science and this works 100% - when applied):
In the future, you are now speaking with your ideal client, do you have that picture? Good. Now imagine you are having a discussion with them about how your work has already allowed them to create awesome new things for their business. Or how you have saved them significant time, energy or money.
Make that movie bright, full color, motion, Academy Award winning and you are the star actor. That's right, feel it. Feel it. Really FEEL it. Now!
And stay in that energizing movie as long as you like. It serves you best, doesn't it now. That's right.
Now, while still in that movie, write down the answers to these questions:
- when specifically is this conversation taking place (the date in the future)
- What is their specific name or company/industry sector
- Where are you in the conversation (on the phone/Skype/G+ ... or if in person, where: their/your office, coffee shop etc..)
- What are they wearing? What are you wearing?
- What do you see, hear or feel going on around you during this conversation?
Joshi, the more 'real' you write that script, the faster your UNconscious will go out and attract exactly those types of clients to you.
Let me know how to be of further service now.
I agree with John Simmons in that SEO, social media are good. To also keep in mind you have stiff competition. Ask if your current clients would be willing to give you a letter of recommendation, especially if you want to stay local. Emphasize why would somebody buy you or what makes you special. Offer an introductory special to encourage people to try you. Good luck!
Never forget the most important factor of getting new clients even if you do online. Online needs to have a strong element of personal behind it. Go to Shows, Expo's, Trade fairs ect. and do some "Farming" and chat to potential clients. Then follow up with your proposal. People still like a face behind online. It takes time and careful planning where and when to "farm" that leads can also become paying clients.
Stay local. Ask for referrals. Advertise. Attend networking events.
Define your target market and ideal client. Go where they hang out. Advertise and market where they get their information to buy.
Did you consider getting referrals from your existing clients? This would be one way to approach your expansion and would give you a better chance of accomplishing your goal since you've already built a rapport with your existing clientele. You can also try marketing your company online through PPC ads, banner ads, email blasts, flyers etc. and let your leads come to you!
You can try Craigslist or similar sites but I find your type services are a hard sell if you are going direct. Try looking for complementary service businesses that have clients or have a better in with the end customers you'd like to serve.
In any case, you aren't selling a website, you are selling what the website can do for the prospect. If you have them, use testimonials and empirical statistics on the websites you have developed and implemented.
Hi Josh, have you tried Social Media to find people? LinkedIn is a great source of upper to middle management and just by connecting with people you can gain potential contacts world wide. The important thing is that when someone connects with you, have a thank you response to send back to them with your websites and title.
Other means include e-mail marketing, internet marketing by using your website, working through your current clients who are happy with your work to refer their associates and friend.
These are a few different ways but there are many. I hope this helps and let me know if you need more assistance or advice.
Network, network and network some more. Search for local face to face business networking meetings online. Go along with an open mind to connect and get to know people, not sell to them. Building relationships is key to building a successful business. However unless you leave the comfort of your own home and start to have the right conversations with the right people, you and your business will remain in the same place. Good luck connecting!
Really, to extend beyond your local market you will need help, its a new ball game and the help will come from networks and channell and there is expensive methods and cheaper methods (still not cheap)
So if you need to know the areas you wish to conquer then identify the affiliation you need and get out there and meet them. If your product is good and your proposition os compelling to the business partner and the client then the venture will take shape.
Wouldnt it be great to have a business growth HQ to call upon to help you design your affiliation strategy and product options that are just plain and simple compelling. :)
Your county clerks office has a plethora of new and current business leads.

You should set up social media profiles on all sites, especially Linkedin for your industry. I am celebrating my first anniversary with my client today and I found her ( she actually found me) on Linked IN
Channels of distribution are so important, who do you want to work with?
Well As a owner of web & graphics development company you have to work with aim to expand not only by saying but with action , now you are serving locals , if you continue to serve with that level you will not get new clients from other places because of you locals , I mean even here ( quality of your services ) then you have to reach the maximum number of expected clients - study your targeted market well then decide which slices your target is ,then approach them by all means of communications ,show them your performance with little income suffering at the beginning then you will expand your work gradually .
You dont find clients
CLIENTS SHOULD FIND YOU!!!
You must make yourself visible and accessible and the sale will realized as a conclusion of your meeting effortlessly.
When you try to chase clients all they do is RUNAWAY
Instead of rushing off to headless searching for clients, look at fundamentals first.
1. who are you targeting, be specific and precise
2. where is your marketing material - presenting well, strong message, attractive offer?
3. Is your marketing campaign available to launch when acquiring new clients?
4. next, than search for clients ... by than you should know where to search for clients + the conversion rate of your leads will be much more higher.
Try and try--you will definitely find out an away to reach your client. Post your work in those group who are doing this and keep writing some white paper and explain its advantages.
