How do I choose the appropriate job title for a new open position at my company?
I'm looking to come up with a title for a position I'm hoping to fill. Here are the details:
-Transportation and construction industry
-Reporting to a department head
-40% of the position will include analyzing complex data, written material, drawings and documents to discern important areas of contract related liability as it relates to claims by contractors
-30% will include acting as a primary liaison with the contracting and consulting community through its major organizations and will develop various outreach programs to them
-Dealing with internal and external customers
-Must have a BA with over 10 years of relevant experience
If you own the company, the great thing is, YOU can call the shots. I normally solve this based on the employee's history and proven experience in their respective marketplace. Great question!
It looks like it might be a Contract Manager position. You can look on LinkedIn at competitors and see if they have titles that might fit your needs. You can review the duties of proposed titles on employment sites such as Salary.com, Payscale, Indeed, Glassdoor... and see if they match your expectations.
