I want to change the company who hosts my email and website with minimum input from me, advice please?
I need help in West London to keep my sanity and change my domain host, preferably to a UK based provider.
Transfer my domain (tonyhutchinsonandco.com)
Keep my email address
I've been using TSO host for a couple of years and they have great support and some really competitive pricing. My websites ranks highly for speed on there shared hosting options and email setup is a breeze.
If you haven't moved yet have at look at their website. https://www.tsohost.com/
I don't work for them, just host with them : ) if you google discount codes theirs usually some offer to be had as well.
Once you have a new hosting package just ask your current domain name supplier to change the nameservers for you to the new ones and then re-add the email address in your new hosting dashboard. The whole process should take a couple of minutes.
Hi Tony, I am just in process of doing the same and migrating my website and emails (keeping my domain registrations with old company) to a lovely new website hosting company called iBox-Security Ltd based in Derby, UK. They handle everything for you with very little fuss. I would always recommend that you do a backup of your website (whether on Wordpress or not) and also backup your emails (just in case). Migration can take up to 72 hours + depending on the size of your website and number/complexity of email filing system. I can highly recommend iBox, just say Józefa sent you and make them smile :-)
Things to note:
- Who owns the domain? I've run into a lot of people who get duped by their website company because they website company actually purchased the domain "on their behalf"
- Do you have important emails you need saved? All your emails will more than likely be lost when the domain transfers to the new servers. You will still have the ability to have your same email address, but you will basically be starting new. This goes for your contacts too unless you use Microsoft Outlook or a similar Email Client.
Tony: Transferring your domain name and email address to another provider should be pretty easy and the hosting company you select should be able to help you make the switch pretty painlessly. It should just require some changes to the DNS records (MX and CNAME). Once made it can take up to 72 hours to replicate across all the domain servers globally but then you should be good to go.
