I'm an ex-con trying to start a new business - where can I find resources to help me?
Hi,
I'm an ex con starting a roofing business. I'm curious what steps I can take to get started and what resources are out there that I can use to assist me?
You can start with HelpForFelons.org. And in North Carolina (I have no idea where you are, of course, but this is a rather good program), the Inmates to Entrepreneurs program offers in-person entrepreneurial training and online courses. Inmatestoentrepreneurs.org
You may also want to try your local community (after all, it's in their best interests for you to *not* become a repeat offender, and having a stable and legal source of income should help prevent that).
For money, some online lenders are more forgiving, but shop around, as interest rates can sometimes be really high.
You can also build business credit to get money but you will be laying out some cash in order to build business credit scores.
For more local advice, talk to your local Chamber of Commerce or SCORE.
Hope this helps and all the best to you in turning over a new leaf!
