Is anyone using a .app domain extension yet?
I'm working to develop a photography / social media app and am having trouble securing the .com I want for a variety of reasons. But being that the primary focus of this app will indeed be mobile, I'd like to consider a .app extension (which is available in my domain name). Any advice? Worth considering doing? I've been consulted in both positive and negative manners on this topic.
,com is easy reachable anyone. if you need anything, you can make sub domains along with the parent domain and its extension .com or other
You've not mentioned the other TLDs you have considered, so hard to suggest anything else.
One common tactic has been to use a country level TLD, like bit.ly and delicio.us did when they started. helps the name be memorable.
Have you considered a different name, so that you can try for an unused .com instead of sticking to the name you started with? It might open up the spread of possibilities in names.
In order of preference I'd say:
.com, .net, .mobi (so long as there's no major desktop tool) and in your case, .photo since it is an existing TLD that specifically speaks to your intended features and audience.
Ultimately, the TLD is nowhere near as important as your business plan, the usability of the app (from what you write it sounds like you're creating a website, not an app, but I could be wrong) or service and the clarity of how to make good use of the app/tool/service etc...
But ultimately, concentrate on your apps usability, feature set and test, test, test it with users as often as you can, as that is far more important than the difference between .com, .net and .photo.
TLD - .com , .net still are the strongest. I would investigate whether there is other APPS doing the same. I had a client who had a really good idea for a business venture, he decided not to pursue(due to competition). His company would have been acquired by a fortune 500 company, he wound up losing his business. Always do .DD (due diligence). IMO
.com would still be the strongest I would think as that is what more people have become accustomed to. If you plan to add more product outside the app market I would be weary. I wouldn't want my business to seem only one sided unless it is that focused. I have used a few of the new extensions. Like .rocks, .photo with good results from my clients as it added a niche at the moment to their name. Really depends I think in your long term business plan / development of product offering plans
Absolutely right Joe!!! It is about basics (there are bugs even in sites of the big ones like LinkedIn really lacking proper requirements engineering), authenticity (you simply can´t buy style) and a small splash of creativity.
A short example: I wanted to post a - new and somehow weired - project on a rather new social platform called Mozambik. Problem was that the Maputus (thats the guys running the whole thing) did not let me use the URL of a site speaking the same language and also intensively using the hub. ???? Just add popcorn without pc and add hub and com. But don´t let mummy, - yeah Mrs. Guebuza I am talking to you - see watching this....
