Is rebuilding my site in Adobe business catalyst a good idea?
A marketing consultant has suggested rebuilding my coaching website in Adobe business catalyst and my upgrading to the premium package at a cost of $40/mth is this a worthwhile investment? Does anyone use the Adobe business catalyst premium service? It is working well for you? Thanks in advance for all answers, much appreciated.
Specifically for what you are doing, Business Catalyst is actually a very good choice.
Because it is $40/month ONLY, other platforms with plugins can add up, other platforms with upgrades/updates will shut you down and give you grief.
BC has a standard ecommerce that works well for your situation, and mult-tiered content solutions are easy to deliver.
I'm sure you have already figured decided to go with a solution.
But if not, your marketing consultant actually did select a very good option for your very particular need. Many of the BC tutorial sites use BC, video tutorials and such. There is one very good plugin (1 time payment) by Thrise for managing video content.. . it's all there.
I can offer you a more affordable option if you wish to contact me at www.amerigoconsulting.com or www.facebook.com/amerigoconsulting for a free consultation.
It is fully waste of time as well waste of money. WordPress is the best solution for make and maintenance.
AS being international developer,i strongly recommended to go with word press which enable self maintenance and easy accessing.
I would suggest you use a content managing system (custom build, WordPress or similar)
First, Business Catalyst is a CMS - so I'm really confused by most of these posts...
Second - Adobe does client care very well. It's more expensive than other services, so that's your first logic gate. Are you looking to pay extra for service, or should that money go into other things (advanced design, more specific analytics tools, etc).
The first question I have is: why a marketing consultant is advising a change to your technology platform? A platform is almost never a bottleneck for marketing work - and if they say it is, I'd start shopping for a new service provider.
Second question: forgetting about what I said above, what was THEIR reason(s) for changing your technology? What wins/gains are you supposed to see?
Honestly Michael, with no other data to go on it sounds like a bad consultant is looking at things to point fingers at to distract you from their own problems...
Adobe business catalyst is a very good product, but in your case where you are building and maintaing a content site, you might as well go for WordPress. Ask someone to set it up for you, and from then on you will be able to manage the content and posts yourself.
WordPress, in my opinion, is definitely the way to go. You can install WP on your hosting server with one click, choose a free theme (or premium theme for less than $80) and put in your content and images in about a day. That includes reading the documentation for the theme you have chosen.
If you are looking for something custom, that is an option as well. WordPress is the best content management system on the web today and it is beginner friendly once you dive into it once or twice and get the hang of it.
I build all of my client websites in WordPress and they absolutely love it. Functionality, usability, and ease of use :-)
I built all my websites with Adobe Dreamweaver before they came up with this system. I love Adobe Dreamweaver and would use this system gladly to rebuild my websites if I have the time to rebuild. My site has over 500 pages so I am not into rebuilding right now. This business Catalyst has everything you need within the program and that way you do not have to learn many different programs or go through going back and forth between them with 6 different passcodes etc. They host it, give you analytics, newsletter marketing, emails, and you can build it for free until you push the site button (which I am assuming makes it live). With this program you can do your social marketing as well. I believe it would make sense if you are making money already from your site or intend to make a good income from your business. At any rate, it can't hurt to try it and see, especially if you have built your present site with a free program, which are not very good in my eyes. The free ones are just for people who need to get by, or cannot afford to get their business started. At least with this one you will have all the tools you need to properly do business including payments worldwide.
As Elaine , Rohit and others have suggested, I also would suggest the same.
Building and upgrading the website is a good idea. As you and your business constantly grow and evolve, you have to portray the same emotion into your website.
To do that, you have to constantly keep making changes to website which conveys that emotion and feel to your followers or individuals who land on to your website.
But going with adobe business catalyst will restrict you in certain manner where your dependency will always be on Adobe. And you will always be restricted to try out new Open source or any other latest technology which may benifit your business or website. But you have to restrict your self to Rules and regulations of adobe.
If you want to be independent and still grow your business, its better do not proceed with any such associations. Always try to search for a better design to solve your problems. Hope it helps.
