What are some marketing strategies for a mobile app used to increase restaurant patrons?
Hi, I have a small restaurant and want to build a mobile app for my restaurant but I don't know how to market my mobile app. What are the best strategies to get my mobile app noticed?
I offer this recommendation in the best interest of you, your customers, and your restaurant. First of all, you do not need a mobile app to accomplish fantastic marketing for your restaurant.
If you followed through on YOUR idea, you would pay a lot of money to have it built, placed in the app stores (most of them are getting refused in the iStore unless they are broad based), and marketed. Once you have an app up and running, you then have to market through it. Lost time, expense, and uncertain results.
MY idea is quite simple. You need a digital solution that includes multiple points of lead generation and capture (for ongoing, recurring marketing). They center around a mobile website. They are much less expensive, faster to turn around, can be used to cross-market coupons, discounts, contests, surveys, loyalty, SMS marketing, QR codes, and more. All for a lot less money, and a much shorter timeframe.

Also, It depends on a large number of factors, the most important being how it needs to be customized to suit the business needs of the customers. It also depends on the platform being used to develop it. Companies like MobilePundits takes care to provide their customers products at low cost without compromising on the quality of product they deliver.

Give the special discount for those who book through your mobile app, launch referral program for app users.
You must first understand the customer you serve and how they would prefer to be engaged. The primary source of communication is your immediate staff and your social media communications. More importantly you should understand the availability of the application you are looking to develop as it may already be available as software as a service. Why pay to build something that already is available.
Utilize your push notifications by sending a weekly special offer and/or event reminder out to your app using customer base, make weekly in app coupons and sales offers for your customers, and tie it all into your loyalty program (if you have one) within your mobile app. If you don't have loyalty built into your app yet, get it done ASAP. And then print your QR Code for downloading your mobile app on everything branded from all of your advertising, to your menu, to your place mats, to your delivery vehicles etc. This has helped our clients increase their sales via their mobile app with great success by increasing their sales quickly too. Good Luck!
Sounds like an exciting venture for you! When marketing your mobile app, I recommend linking it into a lot of your current marketing and be sure to provide incentives which serve as an extended experience for your customers when they are not physically in your establishment. Some ideas are:
- Announcing via email marketing
- Print flyers in restaurant giving an offer for those who download when on site
- Communicate your app on your menus
- Allow customers to save favorite items via the app
- Provide customers with links to recipes of their favorite dishes via the app
- Generate buzz via social media and influencer marketing
Hope that helps and best of luck!
The key to marketing the app itself lies in the customer experience within your restaurant. Of course, the app has to provide enough value that your customers will keep it on their phone, check it regularly etc. First step would be to incentivize your customers to download it while in the store and then run some social media campaigns. You could probably build up some good exposure without spending a ton of money to start.
How long have you been in business? If you have just started, you should concentrate on generating revenue and profit and building a customer base. Having a mobile app probably will not help much there, at least initially.
Some things to work on would be offering a coupon to residents within a 5 mile radius of your restaurant. Offering a special menu coupon on your "slow days/nights to bring in more customers. Perhaps a Groupon offer or coupon in the local paper or ValPak mailing.
For the promotion of your mobile app, nothing can work best for you than social media. Here are the effective social media strategies for your mobile app promotion:
1) Incentive based marketing: Offer you users fee trials and incentives. Its a good activity to gain new users.
2) Keep the conversation going: Keep your audience informed about the latest updates and news about your app.
3) Benefit from holiday hype: Become part of the festive spirit by running campaigns around upcoming events and special occasions.
4) Optimize your social profile for search engines too
5) Get the Pinterest power

No matter how well you market your mobile app, if it’s not useful, fun or something people need, they aren’t going to be interested. Your mobile app doesn’t have to be just another version of your website, that would be of interest to only your current customers. A creative and useful app will attract the general public and put your brand name in front of them.
